Alliance for Democracy (Aford) has summoned Mzimba East Member of Parliament Yeremiah Chihana for a disciplinary hearing Friday.
The party indicates in a statement that he faces the charge of declaring that the party would go into an alliance with the Democratic Progressive Party and that former State president Peter Mutharika would be the alliance’s presidential candidate.
Aford claims that he said this on the sidelines of a political rally that Mutharika organised at Njamba Park in Blantyre on Sunday.
This is happening when the country is preparing for the September 16 2025 Local Government, Parliamentary and Presidential Elections.
The party indicates in the statement, which acting secretary general Linda Limbe has signed, that Chihana would appear before members of the disciplinary committee on May 16 2024.
It says the committee would hear the case at its headquarters in Lilongwe.
“The determination of the summons is based on the interview that Chihana gave to Times [at the meeting] of the DPP in Blantyre during their rally,” Limbe says.
When contacted, Chihana refused to comment on the matter.
