Expectations are high that digital skills will be enhanced among the youth following a K20 million seed capital that some 10 innovators from Blantyre, Chikwawa, Nsanje and Chiradzulu have received under the Digital Skills for All project.
The project is being run by the Public Private Partnership Commission (PPPC), with funding from the World Bank.
This follows a training workshop involving 219 young people from the four districts on Friday where the top 16 innovators pitched their business ideas and ten emerged the best and received K2 million each.
Digital Malawi Project Manager Chimwemwe Matemba said the initiative is expected to transform the lives of many people.

“We have a challenge of diminishing traditional jobs on the market so to counter this, the project is empowering the youth to use technology in income generating initiatives in order to sustain themselves. We expect the beneficiaries to use the funds to boost and start their businesses and also transform their communities,” Matemba said.
The training was conducted by one of the implementers of the project, Reyberg Starck Limited.
Its Communications Officer Cuthbert Magawa said they expect the entrepreneurs to implement the pitched business ideas so that their communities also benefit.
“They started with digital skills training, so we also expect them to use that knowledge to uplift themselves and members of their localities,” Magawa said.
