The death toll in flash floods that have hit Dwangwa in Nkhotakota District has risen to six following the recovery of two more bodies Tuesday.
Nkhotakota District Council spokesperson Wongani Mkandawire said details of the victims remained sketchy.
The discovery of the two bodies happened two days after three others were retrieved from the wreckage occasioned by the disaster and five days after another person died after a boat on a rescue mission capsized in the floodwater.
Over 9,000 people have been left destitute by the disaster that has affected at least 14,000 people in the district.

Nkhotakota North parliamentarian Henry Chimunthu Banda has expressed fear that failure to fix parts of the M5 Road that have been damaged will have negative effects on the country’s economy.
Four sections which have been cut by rainwater have rendered the M5, commonly known as the lakeshore road, impassable.
“Next month, Illovo is expected to start sugar production and the damaged road might affect transport arrangements,” Chimunthu Banda said.
The parliamentarian, who distributed food and non-food items to survivors, also called on government to consider them with loans such as those provided through the National Economic Empowerment Fund.
