Musicians Wendy Harawa, Edgar Kachere of the Edgar ndi Davis fame, Anthony Dumba and Deborah Ntopa, better known as Debbie, were Tuesday elected board members for Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma) pending approval by the government during elections held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.
The elections of the representatives came up as the three-year term of the current board expires in September this year.
With four members elected through Musicians Union of Malawi (Mum), the other two positions will be filled by other arts associations whose elections will be held today.
There was jubilation from the Comesa Hall Tuesday as Cosoma Licencing Manager Mutty Munkhondia, who presided over the elections run by Malawi Electoral Commission, announced four names who triumphed out of the 13 contestants.
The biggest casualty that lost out during the elections is Bishop Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, who is part of the current board but was seeking re-election.

Harawa was over the moon after the election Tuesday.
“I give glory to God for the grace. I am super excited to be trusted by fellow musicians, the Malawi music industry, to be their representative. I am encouraged to do the best I can to my best ability for the welfare and benefit of every artist in Malawi,” she said.
Kachere and Dumba also said they were ready to serve in the board for the development of Cosoma, the music industry and the creative sector as a whole.

Cosoma Executive Director Dora Makwinja hailed musicians for deliberating peacefully at the AGM as well as participating in the elections.
“It has been a fruitful time and we have discussed several issues and members made concrete contributions,” Makwinja said.
