Police Commissioner responsible for the Northern Region Richard
Luhanga has pledged to support Eagles Strikers to regain their Super League status.
Luhanga said sports is a good tool for fostering unity and discipline among men and women in uniform.
He added that it can play a key role in improving working relations between the Malawi Police Service and community members.
He said this when Kwawala Holdings Limited donated a brand-new football kit to the police team at Northern Region Police headquarters in Mzuzu.
Luhanga said the police will take advantage of their games in NRFA to send important messages to the people who love soccer.
“We are committed to doing whatever it takes to see Strikers rise to the top again. This team embodies the hard-working spirit of our officers and we will support them every step of the way,” he said.
Representing Kwawala Holdings Limited, lawyer Victor Gondwe, who facilitated the donation, highlighted the significance of improving working relationships with the police through sports.
He also said the company wants to see Eagle Strikers returning to the Super League.
“We value the dedication and hard work of the Malawi Police Service. This new soccer kit is a token of our appreciation and support for their efforts, both on and off the field,” Gondwe said.
NRFA General Secretary Masiya Nyasulu said with support from Kwawala Holdings Limited, Strikers are poised to make a strong team and help in producing quality players not only for the Super League but also the Malawi national football teams.
Strikers were relegated from the Super League in 2011.
They got the boot after staying in the league for four years.
The team produced players such as current Flames captain John Banda, Luka Bruno Milanzie and Frank Banda.
