The Wolves Ladies Volleyball Team has been booted out of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone VI Senior Clubs Championship after losing three successive matches in Botswana. In the first match, Wolves suffered a three straight sets defeat to Botswana Defence Force VI on Thursday, December 6. The hosts led comfortably, winning the first set 25-16 before sealing victory in the second and third sets after winning 25-17 in each set.
The following day, Wolves lost their second match 3-1 to the University of Zimbabwe at Disthupo Hall Fairground in Gaborone.
The Malawian side won the first set 25-15 before losing the next three sets 25-23, 25-16 and 28-26.
There was no joy for the Malawian side as they lost 3-1 to Prison Leopards of Zambia on Monday, December 9. Wolves lost the first set 25-15 before winning the next one 25-18. However, they failed to contain pressure, losing the third and fourth sets by 27- 25 and 25-23, respectively.
Wolves finished third during this year’s Raiply National Championship when they lost to Ultimate Volleyball Club 3-2.

Initially, national ladies’ champions Vixens and runners-up Blue Eagles were supposed to represent the country at the tournament but failed due to unforeseen circumstances, hence the organising team extended the invitation to teams outside the top two. Local volleyball analyst Trust Mtegha said the team had progressed despite losing all the matches.
“The team missed some of its experienced players who were not released at their workplaces. Otherwise, the youthful squad put up a good fight.
“The other problem is national. There is a need for more tournaments so that players can be remaining active,” Mtegha said.
