The Blantyre derby between Mighty Mukuru Wanderers and Nyasa FCB Bullets played at a jam-parked Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday grossed K56, 429,660 in gate revenue.
This is the highest gross between clubs in domestic football this year.
The revenue breaks the 2022 Airtel Top 8 gross record [K53.5 million] between the two sides played at Bingu National Stadium.
Wanderers Chief Executive Officer Roosevelt Mpinganjira said the fans were eager to watch the first Blantyre derby this season.
“This is wonderful for the teams. The fans from both teams turned up in large numbers. Security was also tight at all the gates,” Mpinganjira said.

On his part, Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga was also happy.
“We are very satisfied but there is room for improvement,” Chigoga said.
The gross is above the K44.8 million gross which was realised during a second round league match in August at Kamuzu Stadium.
However, last year’s first round match between the two teams grossed K12 million at the same venue. The 2023 Charity Shield played at Bingu National Stadium realised K29.7 million in gate revenue.

During Saturday’s match, fans turned out in large numbers.
The gross could be a big step for the clubs but the revenue sharing percentage remains a big challenge.
Out of K56.4 million, the two teams each pocketed K11.8 million as their 25 percent share. Ground levy was also K11.8 million whereas K9,028,701 was total expenses.
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) and Football Association of Malawi (Sulom) each pocketed K4.7 million as their 10 percent cut from the gate proceeds.
According to the gate revenue sheet, the cashiering firm got K3.9 million whereas Police and Malawi National Council of Sports got K1,020,000 and K2.3 million, respectively.
Both teams expressed satisfaction with the gross, saying it was a true reflection of the huge crowd.
Tickets for open stands each was selling at K3,000 whereas K5,000 applied to MBC stands. VIP and covered stand tickets were going at K15,000 and K8,000 each, respectively.
Sports analyst Sherry Msuku said the gross was also a true reflection of the huge turnout.
“The stadium was full to its capacity and I am happy that the teams have made a reasonable amount,” he said.
The two teams shared the spoils after a goal-less draw.
Bullets are second with 22 points from 11 matches whereas Wanderers are third with 19 points from the same number of matches.
