Artists played their role once again of keeping people entertained and sending important messages during a Mental Health Talk Show held at Golden Peacock in Blantyre on Saturday night.
Hosted by Carol Marjorie Chidothe, the Mental Health Talk Show turned out to be a success as it attracted a good audience.
Poet Luckier Chikopa excited the audience with her poem ‘Mamuna Ndi Mbalame’.
Chikopa said she was happy to use her art of poetry to entertain the audience and at the same time be part of what she described as an important gathering.
“Issues of mental health are crucial; we need to engage and find solutions; otherwise, cases of suicide continue to rise due to mental health,” she said.
The Mental Health Talk Show also saw a performance from singer and guitarist Desire Manda.
Chidothe, who led the talk show session which brought a number of players including from the religious sector, said she was impressed with the debut show.
“People have responded positively and we are looking forward to holding more of these sessions. This is just the beginning but we will involve more players and experts in mental health. We need to hold hands as a country and get serious on issues of mental health,” she said.
Chidothe said in enriching the talk show and getting it livelier, they decided to bring in entertainment in form of music and poetry.
“Art is powerful and on issues of mental health we need to utilise it. That is why we engaged Luckier and Desire Manda,” Chidothe said.
Guest of honour Apostle Eubert Morris hailed Chidothe for the talk show, saying it has come at the right time as issues of mental health need serious attention in the country.
“As the religious sector, we have a huge role to play on issues of mental health,” Morris said.
