Athletes who are participating in the Malawi Sports Development Camp in Lilongwe have been challenged to train hard and give their best during the 13- day training programme.
The programme is underway at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School in Lilongwe.
The call was made by Malawi National Council of Sports Vice Board Chairperson Chris Sukasuka during the official opening ceremony of the camp.
Sukasuka encouraged athletes to push beyond their comfort zones and fully embrace demands of the camp.
“I encourage you, athletes, to push yourselves beyond your comfort zones. Embrace the hard training and stay focused when it gets tough. Greatness is not found in comfort; it is built through perseverance, sacrifice and belief,” he said.

He further urged athletes to strive for excellence, enjoy the journey, build friendships and learn from one another.
“These moments will not only shape your sporting careers but also your lives, helping you grow into well-rounded individuals,” he said.
Award-winning athletics coach John Mwathiwa expressed optimism that the camp would provide a strong platform for identifying and preparing athletes to represent Malawi in upcoming international competitions, including the Region 5 Games and the Youth Olympic Games.
“We are grateful to the government for this initiative. It gives us, coaches, the opportunity to assess our athletes and help them improve. In the past, we have underperformed in international competitions due to lack of adequate preparations but we believe this camp will help us achieve better results,” he said.
