Former Super League side Bangwe All Stars has disbanded due to financial challenges.
The Blantyre-based outfit joins a host of teams that have closed shop after being relegated from the TNM Super League.
This comes one month before the kickoff of the National First Division.
Bangwe owner Mphatso Jika told MBC Radio 2 FM Sport that the ailing economy had forced him to stop bankrolling the team.
“It is sad that I will not manage to sponsor the team any more. I have to accept the harsh reality and let others take over,” Jika said.

Jika said the financial burden had become overwhelming due to the rising cost of living in the country.
Furthermore, Jika said he could no longer afford to pay players with salaries ranging from K150,000 to K400,000 per month.
For the past 10 years, several teams have folded.
The teams include Masters Security, Mzuzu Warriors, Mlatho Mponela, Nchalo United, Evirom, Epac and Blantyre United.

Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) General Secretary Kingsley Simbeye said Bangwe’s exit was a big blow to domestic football.
“It is a sad development for Malawi football but we have to move on and find a replacement to play in the National First Division,” Simbeye said.
Bangwe were promoted to the TNM Super League in 2023.
In their debut season, they finished on position six in the TNM Super League and qualified for the 2024 Airtel Top 8 Cup.
