Bitter sweet for Tabitha Chawinga
Sorchers captain Tabitha Chawinga was on target for Inter Milan as they lost 3-2 to leaders Roma in Italian Serie A Women on Saturday.
Tabitha scored just two minutes after recess after Benedetta Glionna and Andressa netted for Roma in the 25th and 33rd minute, respectively.
Giada Greggi scored the third goal for Roma before Marta Teresa Pandini pulled a goal back for Inter in the 70th minute.
This means the Malawian striker is the leading goal-scorer with 14 goals, three above Cristiana Girelli, who scored for her club Juventus in a 3-0 victory over Fiorentina.
If she wins the Golden Boot Award, Tabitha will become the first African female to win in the Serie A Women.
The Malawian striker said it was a bad day at the office.
“We lost to a good team. Again, it was not our day; we did everything. Not all is lost,’’ Tabitha said.
The Malawian has taken the Italian Women’s League by storm with impressive displays since she joined on loan from Chinese champions Wuhan Jiangda.
In her career, Tabitha has won the Golden Boot award in her debut season in Sweden and China.
In Sweden, she scored 38 goals for Krokom/ Dvassatts despite joining the league while it was in progress.
In China, she won the award with 17 goals in her first year, beating Nigerian Asisat Oshoala.
Roma are eight points clear at the summit of the log table with 45 points whereas Inter have 32 points from 17 matches.
