History beckons for Malawi Women’s National Football Team striker Tabitha Chawinga as she has entered into the race for this year’s Uefa Champions League golden boot award.
The Malawian scored one goal as Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the semi-finals of the Uefa Champions League following 3-0 win over BK Hacken on Thursday.

This means Tabitha has scored four goals in this year’s competition. She is third on the scorers’ chart with four goals, two behind leading goal scorer Salma Paralluelo of Barcelona Women’s FC.
Five players namely Marie Gatoto of PSG, Ada Hegerberg of Lyon FC, Samir Kerr of Chelsea, Graham Hansen and Alidou of Benfica have five goals each.

Tabitha is tied on four goals with Aitana Bonmati, Patri Guijarro (Barcelona), Giacinti, Giugiliano (both Roma FC) and Kafaji of Hacken and Dabritz of Lyon.
Tabitha has a chance to add to her tally in the semi-finals when PSG face fellow French giants Lyon next month.
After the win over Hacken on Thursday, Tabitha was excited.
“It feels great to be in the semi-finals of the Uefa Champions League. Our focus is on the final,” she said.

If she wins the Uefa Champions League golden boot, she will be the first Malawian to achieve the feat.
Apart from chasing the Uefa Champions League golden boot, she is the leading goal scorer in France with above Hegerberg of Lyon as the D1 Arkema is heading into the final stages of the season.

She is also topping on the assist charts with 10 assists, one above Kadidiatou Diani.
Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili said it was good that Tabitha has lived up to expectations in France.
“This is the first time playing in Uefa Champions League but she has done extremely well,” Fazili said.
Tabitha has very rich history of winning golden boot awards in her debut season in all the countries she has played abroad.
Last season, she became the first female African to win the Italian golden boot award when she scored 23 goals in 21 matches for Inter Milan Women.
