By Isaac Salima:
Blantyre Synod of the CCAP Thursday organised prayers for the September 16, 2025 Local Government, Parliamentary and Presidential Elections.
At the event, members of the clergy also prayed for UTM presidential candidate Dalitso Kabambe.
The synod’s deputy secretary general Baxton Maulidi said the synod held the prayers in order to commit the forthcoming general polls and their synod elections in the hands of God.
“We extended the invitation to all stakeholders, including political parties. As such, it was Dr Kabambe who showed up and, so, we had to pray with him. This is not an endorsement but only praying with him as one of the stakeholders. It is important to pray for our nation and pray for ourselves,” he said.

Maulidi further urged people to pray hard so that God should gift the country with leaders who are committed to the welfare of people.
Kabambe said he was honoured to be prayed for.
“This is an honour for me because, as we go towards the elections, we need the hand of God. The country is going through a lot of challenges and it is important to have leaders who will transform the nation,” he said.
During the prayers, some speakers decried the tendency of some elected duty bearers who do not implement what is contained in their manifestos.
