Malawi Women’s National Football Team strikers Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga have missed out on the 2025 Caf Women’s Footballer of the Year award.
This comes after the Confederation of African Football (Caf) released the three finalists for the accolade yesterday ahead of the gala award slated for tomorrow in Rabat, Morocco.
The list comprises Moroccan duo of Ghizlaine Chebbak (Al Hilal), Sanaa Mssoudy (As Far) and Nigerian Rasheedat Ajibade (Paris Saint-Germain).
Both Tabitha and Temwa were nominated for the top award for the second consecutive year.

Temwa, who is the only African female player nominated for the 2025 Best Fifa Women’s Player award, was initially considered among the favourites to win the award following her impressive performance with US club Kansa City Current.

But fell short of country contribution having played one friendly match for the Scorchers in a 2-0 loss to Zambia’s Copper Queens in Lusaka, Zambia in February.
Temwa was not readily available for her comment as we went to press yesterday.
Reigning Caf Women’s Footballer of the Year, Barbara Banda from Zambia has also failed to make the cut for top three.
Recently, Temwa became the second player in the NWSL history to retain the golden boot award with 15 goals.

She joined Sam Kerr’s record who retained the award for three consecutive years from 2017 to 2019.
She became the fastest player to score 25 goals in the regular season.
The Caf awards ceremony will honour players, coaches and teams who made an impact for the period of January to October.
