The Chinese government has pledged to support Malawi’s efforts in building resilience against climate shocks so that it can achieve development aspirations.
The sentiments were made by the People’s Republic of China President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 15th Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (Brics) Plus Outreach Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Xi acknowledged Malawi’s unwavering support for the One-China Policy and Chakwera’s leading voice at Brics and other multilateral fora that are advancing the interests of developing nations.
“I would like to extend an invitation to you for a State visit and I commit to support Malawi’s efforts to build resilience against climate shocks and achieve its development aspirations,” he said.
On his part, Chakwera conveyed his gratitude for consistent help the Chinese government offers to Malawi.

The Malawi leader also mentioned China’s support towards the construction of Parliament Building, Malawi University of Science and Technology and Bingu National Stadium.
