IN CONTROL— Referee Mercy Kayira cautions Civil player

TNM Super League outfits Civil Service United and Dedza Dynamos are optimistic that their clubs will still perform despite failing to sign new players during the midseason transfer window.

Civil are without their captain Moses Banda and defender Blessings Malinda who joined Ekhaya FC while Dedza released veteran Victor Lungu with attacker Godswill Kanyika making a switch to Ekhaya as well.

The Civil Servants’ coach Abbas Makawa said while failure to replace their two stars is a cause for concern, filling the gap is possible.

“The players who are still with us will do the job. We have also earmarked several players to be promoted from our reserve side. Indeed we did not make any signings during the break but we have no choice because it is to do with management as well. Yes we lost two key players but look, we have promoted a youngster from our reserve team and given time, he will help us,” Makawa said.

His Dedza counterpart Alex Ngwira said failing to beef up his squad after releasing some players leaves him with a huge task to deliver in the second round.

But Ngwira was quick to point out that sometimes it is good to let players go and seek greener pastures.

“We lost an instrumental forward, Promise Kamwendo, to Mighty Wanderers and struggled towards the end of the first round. But now we are rejuvenating. I believe it is not good to stop players from leaving if they want to. Doing so could deter others from joining as they will be saying we block our players from seeking greener pastures,” he said.

Civil are fifth in the league with 27 points from 17 matches while Dedza are ninth after amassing 21 points from the same number of matches.

Meanwhile, action in the TNM Super League action resumes this weekend after an international break.
