First Grade Magistrate Kondwani Chinangwa of Mkukula Magistrate’s Court has adjourned to Friday, April 10, 2026 a case in which former State House Chief of Staff Colleen Zamba is contesting two arrest warrants.
State lawyer Prescott Mwayiulipo told The Daily Times that he had asked the court for the defence to produce the warrants in question or identify the law enforcement body involved, which he said the defence had failed to do.
“The applicant, through her counsel, submitted that the alleged warrants of arrest should be set aside, and the state has also advanced its arguments that the applicant failed to produce the warrants of arrest because it was their obligation to do so,” Mwayiulipo said.
He added that if the applicant was informing the court about the warrants, she was expected to be in possession of the documents.

Zamba’s lawyer, George Kadzipatike, argued that his client, who is already on bail in other matters, is available for investigations and should be summoned rather than arrested.
He described the warrants as a form of pre-trial victimisation.
Zamba was previously arrested on allegations of money laundering and abuse of office.
Earlier, she was detained on December 3, 2025 at Kamuzu International Airport over claims that she recruited about 300 people into the public service without following established procedures.

In February 2026, Zamba was arrested again alongside former minister of Agriculture Sam Kawale and former minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Sosten Gwengwe.
The three were charged with conspiracy to commit a crime and abuse of office.
Prosecutors allege that they conspired to defraud the government by corruptly awarding a contract to East Bridge Estate SRL to supply 600,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser, allegedly in exchange for agricultural produce.
