High Court Judge Patrick Chirwa, sitting as Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate, Wednesday found businessman Zameer Karim of Pioneer Investments with a case to answer in a case in which he is being accused of forging documents to acquire a K150 million loan at Ecobank to supply food rations to the Malawi Police Service (MPS).
But Chirwa has acquitted Ecobank official Victoria Chanza, who was being accused alongside Karim.
Chanza’s lawyer Tamando Chokhotho said he was happy that his client has been acquitted.
“All along, we have been saying that our client did not take part in the forgery and this is exactly what we expected,” Chokhotho said
In a brief interview, Chanza could not hide her excitement on being acquitted.

“I thank God for this day. I have been vindicated. Although I knew I did nothing wrong, it put stress on me, my family and employer.
“I thank my employer, family and friends for being there throughout the three years of persecution,” Chanza said.
Karim was, alongside Chanza, charged with forging police documents which allegedly helped them secure a K150 million loan from Ecobank on the pretext that Karim had a contract with MPS.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested Karim for allegedly being involved in the procurement of K2.7 billion police food rations whose tender Pioneer Investments won in 2015.
