About 1,500 youths who met requirements to work in Israeli farms have lamented delays that are making them fail to go to the Middle East country.
They have made their views known in a letter which their chairperson Dingiswayo Kumwenda and spokesperson Tapson Maganga have written.
The petition has since been delivered to offices of the President and Cabinet, Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, the State Vice President’s office as well as ministries of Labour and Foreign Affairs.
In the petition, the youth have threatened to mobilise themselves for a peaceful vigil at Capital Hill and Ministry of Labour offices in Lilongwe.
“We, the youth aged between 23 and 39 [years and] from various parts of Malawi, representing all tribes, including Chewas, Tumbukas, Senas, Lomwes, Yaos, Ngonis, Mang’anjas, and more, unite as one family. We demand the government [to] allow us to proceed to Israel or enable the agents to facilitate our travel,” the letter reads.

When asked to comment on the matter, Ministry of Labour spokeswoman Nellie Kanyemba Kapatuka said the ministry is expected to hold a press briefing on the matter today.
“A press briefing is planned to take place tomorrow [today] and this is one of the agenda items,” Kapatuka said.
