Elia Kananji has emerged as the favourite to be named Creck Sporting Club coach after quitting Blue Eagles.
Kananji handed in his resignation letter at the Area 30 club Thursday and is likely to replace Joseph Kamwendo, who was fired at Creck on Tuesday following their poor start to the season.
Creck General Secretary Aaron Mtaya confirmed having Kananji on their radar but insisted that nothing had been agreed.
“We are discussing [the issue] with three coaches but nothing concrete has been agreed,” Mtaya said.
But Times Sport has established that Kananji had already agreed terms.

The seasoned coach signed a two-year contract with Eagles after guiding them back to the TNM Super League.
He was reported to have been locked up in a meeting with Eagles officials Thursday.
Kananji made his name after winning trophies with giants FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers.
Before joining Eagles, Kananji was at Civil Service United.

He started his high profile coaching at the defunct Blantyre United.
While confirming that he had resigned at Eagles, Kananji insisted that Creck had not approached him.
“I am done with Eagles but no team has officially approached me,” he said.
Eagles Chief Administration Officer Muhammad Ali confirmed receiving the resignation letter.
“We had a meeting with the coach to guide him on one or two things but we accepted his resignation letter. Of course, there are some contractual issues which need to be sorted out,” he said.
Ali said Kananji informed them that he had been offered a lucrative contract at one of the country’s Super League clubs.
“We cannot match what he has been offered elsewhere. The ball is in his court,” Ali said.
Kananji went down with Eagles to the Chipiku Stores Central Region Football Association League Premier Division after failing to escape Super League relegation in the 2023 season.
But he fought his way back to the elite league last season after clinching the regional championship.
Kananji also won the FDH Bank and Champion cups for the policemen to finish the 2024 season in style.
Creck are also courting former Flames coaches Patrick Mabedi and Ernest Mtawali but Mtaya refused to give more details.
“It is premature for me to reveal who is the favourite. It might jeopardise our discussions,” Mtaya said.
Creck sacked Kamwendo alongside his assistants Abel Mkandawire and Chiukepo Msowoya after the team registered two wins, two draws and three losses.
The Lilongwe-based side is currently 11th on the 16-team Super League table with eight points from seven matches.
