Ethno Music Camp, which brings together talents from different countries including Malawi, starts on Saturday at Chingalire Cultural Centre in Lilongwe through to May 26.
Led by Music Crossroads Malawi, Ethno Music Camp seeks to among others; promote the playing of traditional instruments which are slowly phasing out.
Music Crossroads Malawi Director Mathews Mfune said on Monday that all was set for the camp that he indicated has been growing every year.
“The participants start arriving on May 17 2024 (today) and we are looking forward to another exciting camp where participants will once again share knowledge on music and playing of traditional instruments,” he said. Mfune said apart from Malawi, the other countries participating this year include Uganda, Zimbabwe, United States of America, Mozambique, Norway and Brazil.
The camp which has moved to Chingalire Cultural Centre driven by veteran musician Ben Mankhamba has in the past years also had stints at Kayesa Creative in Mchinji.

Apart from sharing knowledge, the participants during the camp also create songs and hold live performances during the Pakhonde Ethno Music Camp.
The participants will not however have an experience of holding live performances at the Pakhonde Ethno Music Festival which has been postponed to a later date.
The annual festival has for the past years given the stage to the Ethno Music Camp participants to share the stage with other artists.
Pakhonde Ethno Music Festival which is led by Music Crossroads Malawi was scheduled to be held on May 25 to 26 2024.
