Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Walter Nyamilandu has hailed Champion Stadium owner King Kabvina for constructing a facility that can comfortably host matches.
Nyamilandu was speaking after touring the stadium during the launching ceremony of the Fam District Football League at Champion Stadium in Mponela, Dowa District, on Saturday.
The Confederation of African Football executive member said by constructing the stadium, Kabvina has demonstrated that he has passion for developing football and uplifting livelihoods of communities around Mponela.
“The owner of Champion Stadium in Mponela is a real champion. He has a fantastic vision of building a good-looking stadium that can host football matches comfortably. He has demonstrated to have passion for developing football and uplifting the community of Mponela.
“I am impressed to see that he is sacrificing his personal resources for the good cause of the game. This is quite admirable. It is not a mean achievement when you consider that several established institutions are failing to put up such structures,” he said.

On his part, Kabvina said the stadium can host training sessions for the country’s national teams as it is in a conducive environment.
“The stadium is close to a high class hotel which is ideal for accommodating teams. Both the stadium and hotel are also located in a place that is quiet and far away from any disturbances. I deliberately chose this place because I knew the requirements for hosting teams that want to concentrate on training.
“The stadium is also ideal for both cup and league matches as it is not far from the M1 Road. My ultimate goal is to bring innovations that have never been seen in our game before. I am doing all I can to achieve my targets in turning this stadium into one of the best in the country,” he said.
Kabvina is also bankrolling a K13 million cup for the country’s regional teams.
