Football Association of Malawi (Fam) and Super League of Malawi (Sulom) have urged clubs to implement Uefa Assist Development Programme activities.
The two bodies made the call at the end of a four-day Uefa Assist League Development Programme workshop for the country’s 16 Super League teams.
The workshop, held in Lilongwe on Wednesday, also had Fam and Sulom secretariat staff.
Fam President Walter Nyamilandu said, after the training, they expect to see growth and change in management of clubs.
“This training has raised the football fraternity’s expectations. There should be growth and big change in how officials manage their respective clubs. We want them to embrace the business mentality.

“The clubs have been given all the principles on how they can generate revenue. We want our game to be respectable and maintain a very good image. There is a need for transparency and accountability throughout,’’ Nyamilandu said.
The workshop was also aimed at building the capacity of Fam and Sulom secretariat staff.
After the training, the 16 Super League clubs are expected to professionalise and develop their operations through drawing long term plans.
Sulom President Fleetwood Haiya said the training will help the clubs operate professionally.

“This is one of the pillars that help in ensuring that clubs are being run professionally through capacity building. We hope that the clubs understand management and governance. Governance is an issue in most of our clubs. So, after the training, we expect to see more partners coming on board to help improve matters,’’ Haiya said.
Among others, the delegates had an in-depth operational review of the country’s competition structure as well as commercial, financial and governance aspects of the Super League in order to strengthen the existing league system.
Karonga United General Secretary Ramsey Simwaka described the training as a game-changer.
“It was an important training for all of us. We now know how to generate and manage our funds,’’ Simwaka said.
The participants received certificates of attendance at the end of the workshop.
A Uefa team comprising experts Stuart Larman, Geoff Wilson and Uefa Head of International Relations Eva Pasquirer facilitated the training.
