Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has approved new Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players, including increasing fines for player tapping, in order to bring sanity to domestic football.
This follows rising cases of transfer disputes every player transfer window.
During a Fam Executive Committee meeting held in Mangochi on Saturday, it was agreed that player tapping fines be increased from K500,000 to K2 million.
Player tapping is an offence when a club approaches an engaged player without permission from the parent club.
For an amateur with a contract in the Super League, the fine has been increased from K250,000 to K1 million.

“The executive also noted the knowledge gap on players transfer matters and guided that Fam should come up with a sensitisation programme for all stakeholders on regulations related to the status and transfer of players,” the statement reads.
For the women’s regional league, player tapping fine is at K1 million whereas for an amateur with a contract, in case of regional leagues and below, the fine has been increased from K50,000 to K200,000.
In addition, Fam has introduced training compensation.
For Super League clubs, training compensation will be K2.2 million whereas K1 million will apply to regional leagues.

Sports analyst Sherry Msuku said the fines will bring sanity to local football.
“This is the way to go,” Msuku said.
Earlier this year, Silver Strikers were found guilty of tapping FCB Nyasa Big Bullets’ striker Hassan Kajoke.
