Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has hired Yvon Avry as the new Technical Director (TD).
This follows the interviews which were conducted on September 23.
The Frenchman emerged as a successful candidate, outclassing 16 other coaches who applied for the job.
A Fam statement yesterday, says Avry is expected to start his work as Fam TD on November 3, 2025.
“Following the evaluation, Avry emerged as the top candidate based on his qualifications, international experience, and technical vision aligned with Fam’s developmental objectives,” the statement reads.

He has experience in African football having served as a Technical Advisor for the Federation Malagasy de Football (FMF).
He recently worked as Technical Director for Fosa Juniors FC in Majunga, Madagascar.
Avry also worked as a Fifa technical consultant and instructor between 2007 and 2021.

Sports analyst George Kaudza-Masina said he expects a lot from the new TD.
“It has been long overdue. This is a good development. I hope the new TD will be on top of all technical matters at Fam,” Kaudza Masina said.
The position of TD fell vacant after the association decided against renewing the contract of Benjamin Kumwenda, who served in that role for two years.
Kumwenda initially joined Fam as technical development officer but rose to the position of TD after Romanian coach Mario Marinica was appointed Flames coach following Meck Mwase’s firing.
Eventually, Marinica was also fired as Flames coach following poor results.
The position of the TD is very crucial in football. Among other things, the TD is responsible for the strategy, development and technical of the technical directorate.
The new TD will also be vital as Fam is working on developing a national football philosophy to give Malawian football an identity.
