Film Association of Malawi (Fama) has set up a special committee that seeks to oversee a number of activities that have been lined up in preparation for the repatriation and subsequent interment of renowned actor, radio and television personality Hope Chisanu.
Popularly known as Bemberezi, Chisanu died last Saturday in United States of America after a short illness.

The committee is being led by veteran filmmaker Shemu Joyah, who worked with Chisanu featuring him in all of his three films including The Last Fishing Boat and Seasons of A Life.
The other members of the committee include Edwin Chonde, Joyce Mhango Chavula, Ashukile Mwakisulu, James Kitchen, Daud Shaib, Isaac Misoya, Mildred Murindiwa and Hazel Mambo.
Joyah who has released Chisanu’s tribute on YouTube said they have created the special committee to help in raising funds for Chisanu’s family during this time of bereavement.

“There is need to sustain the family as we wait the repatriation of Hope’s remains and also the cost of doing that,” he said.
The veteran filmmaker said there are several activities they intend to organize and it includes the screenings of several films in which Chisanu starred in.
“He was arguably the greatest actor I have ever worked with. He was versatile, talented and a pleasure to work with on set. He had an amazing understanding of character and knew how best to play his role with little direction,” Joyah said.
The Nation indicated yesterday that the family is appealing for funding to repatriate the remains of Chisanu and that it was looking for K42 million.

Chisanu also starred in MBC’s Theatre of the Air, Story Workshop’s Zimachitika, Tilitonse and Mbali Yanga and soap opera Mama’s Restaurant, Pakachere’s After the Honeymoon and Tinkanena.
