Food and Agriculture Organisation (Fao) representative Zhijun Chen has lauded the country for taking steps to shore up food production.
He cited the introduction of farmer field schools (FFS) among strategies that were bearing fruit in both Malawi and at the global community.,
Chen said this in Salima District, where 35 local and international participants were being trained in FFS project implementation modalities.
According to Chen, Malawi is also excelling in digitisation, which is one of the key aspects of the FFS approach worldwide.

“As a least developed nation, Malawi is progressing well, in terms of promoting the field school approach as well as on the digitisation aspect,” Chen said, describing the steps as key to the attainment of food security goals.
He, however, said monitoring was key to success as it gave stakeholders a clear picture of progress being made
On his part, Salima District Council Director of Agricultural Services Eniford Kanyimbo said they would intensify monitoring activities to ensure that the country was ticking all the boxes on food security.
“Monitoring and evaluation are very important when we talk about promoting food security,” he said.
