FCB Nyasa Big Bullets have admitted that there was massive gate fraud at Bingu National Stadium (BNS) during their Caf Champions League first preliminary round second leg match against Equatorial Guinea’s Dragon FC.
For a 38,000 capacity stadium like BNS, where fans were paying a minimum of K2,000 each, Bullets should have raked in not less than K76 million.
The People’s Team made the admission during a press briefing Thursday, ahead of next week’s second preliminary round first leg clash against Democratic Republic of Congo’s TP Mazembe at the same facility.
Bullets Chief Administration Officer Albert Chigoga said they believe that there was a re-selling of tickets on match day.
Chigoga claimed that security officers who were on duty during the match sabotaged their system despite tough measures being put in place.
“We have learnt our lessons the hard way. We will, therefore, put in place more tough measures ahead of our match against TP Mazembe next Sunday. One of such measures is that we will not sell tickets on match day. We are selling our tickets in advance and soccer lovers should make sure that they get them in good time. One standard ticket is going at K3,000.
“Secondly, we will hire a private security company that will be checking the tickets. Once a ticket is presented at the gate, it will be torn up as the holder enters the stadium. We want to avoid situations where the same ticket is sold to several people. This is what was happening during the Dragon match,” he said.
Chigoga said should there be need to sell tickets on match day, the charge will be double as much.
“We do not want to sell tickets on match day. That is the take-home message. We encourage our supporters to embrace the culture of buying tickets in advance because that is the only way we can beat fraud,” he said.
Bullets reached the second preliminary round of the continental elite club competition after beating Dragon 3-0 on goal aggregate.
