FDH Bank has pumped K360 million into the Malawi School Sports Association (Massa), putting it in a position to roll out secondary football and netball competitions.
The sponsorship package was unveiled at FDH Bank headquarters in Blantyre yesterday.
FDH Bank Senior Marketing Manager Ronald Chimchere said the sponsorship was for three years, translating to K120 million per year.
“We, as FDH, have been taking an active role in supporting and driving sports forward in Malawi. We hope this support will assist in unearthing more new talent in Malawi.
“This is going to close the gap; you know, we have been sponsoring the Mayor’s Trophy, which targets primary school learners, FDH Cup, the national team and, now, we are supporting secondary school students,” he said.

Chimchere said there was a need for Massa to ensure that netball and football activities were handled professionally.

Massa President Blackson Malamula was optimistic that the gesture would attract more students to school.
“We want to thank FDH Bank for the support. This sponsorship package is timely. We had the Coca-cola tournament, which was a good platform for the players in schools to showcase their skills,” Malamula said.
On his part, Football Association of Malawi (Fam) President Fleetwood Haiya said the gesture was a huge step towards meeting export strategy goals.

“We need to have players who have quality skills and a good education background. These things are essential to our export strategy, which is premised on sending players to other countries,” Haiya said.
Similarly, Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) official Justice Katika commended FDH Bank for the assistance.
The bank also sponsors the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames, the FDH Bank Cup and the inaugural FDH Bank Cup Netball Premier League.
