FDH Bank plc has set its sights on improving ticketing systems in the second round of the FDH Bank Premiership as it seeks to increase gate revenue and strengthen the financial sustainability of clubs.
The bank, which is in the first year of a five-year sponsorship agreement with the Super League of Malawi (Sulom), says better ticketing systems are key to ensuring that more money generated at the gates reaches clubs and other stakeholders.
First-round gate revenue stood at K1.08 billion, up marginally from K1.06 billion during the corresponding period last season.

The increase of 1.74 percent comes despite the league generating K1.7 billion in total gate revenue throughout the whole of last season, raising questions about how much more revenue can be generated through improved systems and stronger fan engagement.

FDH Group Head of Marketing Ronald Chimchere said the bank would work closely with Sulom to identify opportunities to grow revenue, with ticketing being a key area of focus.
Mighty Wanderers were the highest-earning club with K93 million, followed by FCB Nyasa Big Bullets with K88 million.
Silver Strikers earned K39 million while Ekhaya generated K23 million.
“Revenue is not just a number. It benefits clubs, in terms of running their affairs. We look at ground owners and a number of stakeholders.

“So, it is very important that we hold hands to ensure that we continue to grow revenue,” Chimchere said.
He said the five-year sponsorship provides an opportunity to gradually transform the commercial side of the league, including growing the fan base and modernising ticketing systems.
“In terms of our vision and plan, we are building it up. We signed a contract for five years; so, we are going to build it up to ensure that we continue to grow the fan base,” he said.
The development comes as Sulom prepares to introduce a pilot phase of an electronic ticketing system.
Sulom Treasurer Allie Mwachande said discussions with the sponsor were at an advanced stage and the pilot project would be implemented during the second round.
“We will start the pilot phase at all venues soon as we want to improve the revenue for the betterment of all stakeholders,” Mwachande said.
With the second round kicking off this weekend, Blue Eagles lead the standings on 31 points.
