Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has called for a review meeting on youth development programmes aimed at revisiting football development strategies in the country in an effort to compete for major honours.
Initially, the indaba was slated for today but it has been shifted to a later date.
Fam will engage representatives of National Coaches Committee, Malawi Schools Sports Association, football legends, analysts, journalists and National Youth Football Association (NYFA) to develop strategies suitable for the country.
Fam Technical Development for Sports (TDS) Manager Anderson Kamanga said through the programme they expect to develop the dwindling football standards in the country.
“We started this programme in 2022 as a pilot project with Fifa after the world governing body bemoaned failure for some African countries’ persistent failure to qualify for the World Cup. This is a follow up meeting of the review meeting we had with the stakeholders,” Kamanga said.

Meanwhile, football analyst Parry Chinyama said this is the right way to redeem and restart Malawi’s football development.
“When you look at European countries you will see that apart from the traditional teams that qualify for the World Cup finals, new teams also qualify at every tournament. This goes to football basics.
“In Africa, mostly it is the same teams with few exceptions,” Chinyama said.
