Malawi National Football Team striker Gabadinho Mhango continues to write his own piece of history in the DStv Premiership, where he is now the first Malawian to score for six different clubs.
Mhango scored a stunning free-kick that helped his Moroka Swallows to beat Cape Town Spurs 3-1 at Dobsonville Stadium on Wednesday.
This is Mhango’s second goal for Swallows after he netted a controversial winner against Sekhukhune United some two weeks ago.
The former FCB Nyasa Big Bullets superstar said it felt good to score his second goal.
“I am happy to score for the team. We worked hard and got all the three points,’’ he said.
After announcing his arrival on the big stage with five-star performances for Bullets, Mhango moved to South Africa, where he joined Bloemfontein Celtic in 2013, scoring 15 goals for the team in 46 matches.
He then starred for Bidvest Wits, who later loaned him to Golden Arrows, where he scored five goals in 13 matches.
At Wits, Mhango also netted 14 goals in 52 appearances and helped the club to win the Premier Soccer League title in 2016.
His next destination was Orlando Pirates where he made history by becoming the first Malawian to win the golden boot award when he scored 16 goals.
He shared the award with Namibian Peter Shalulile, who was then playing for Highlands Park.
In total, he scored 21 goals for Pirates in 55 matches from 2019 to 2022 before joining Amazulu, where he netted five goals.
Mhango has surpassed Flames legend John Maduka, who scored for Celtic, Umtata Bushbucks and Royal Zulu.
Maduka scored 33 goals in 196 matches for Bushbucks, six goals for Celtic and one goal for Royal.
Another Malawi legend Ernest Mtawali played for Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Hellenic, Ajax Cape Town, Celtic and Welkom Real Hearts.
Flames former defender Moses Chavula believes Mhango will score more goals for Swallows.
“It seems he has settled well at Swallows. This is good for him and our national team,’’ Chavula said.
Meanwhile, another Flames striker Chawanangwa Kaonga was on target as Zanaco drew 1-1 with FC Muza in the MTN Zambia Super League on Wednesday.
This was Kaonga’s first goal of the season, having scored thrice last season.
