Malawi National Football Team former midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr is optimistic that he will land a new club next year.
The talented midfielder has stayed for one season without playing active football after terminating the contract with Sudanese giants Al Hilal on mutual consent in 2023.
His South Africa-based manager Paul Mitchel said there were several clubs that were looking for his services in January next year.
“We are confident that he will get a club. He is professional. His altitude is very good,” Mitchel said.
Early this year, the Mighty Mukuru Wanderers former midfielder nearly joined defunct Moroka Swallows.
Currently, there are two Malawian players in the Betway Premiership namely Frank Gabadinho Mhango (Marumo Gallants) and Limbikani Mzava of Magesi FC.
Sports analyst Parry Chinyama said Phiri should not lose hope.
“I know that Gerald is a very good player and, very soon, he will sign for another team,” he said.
The 1.8 metres tall midfielder has played for several teams in South Africa.
Before joining Hilal in Sudan, he was playing for Baroka FC.
He also had stints with Bidvest Wits, Platinum FC and Township Rollers in Botswana.
During the 2019 Cosafa Cup, he was voted as player of the tournament, having scored three goals and three assists in five matches.
