By Pemphero Malimba:
The government has reduced the number of diplomats from 193 to 139, The Daily Times has learned.
According to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), 139 diplomats have been appointed to embassies, a figure less by 54 from 193 appointments under the previous administration.
Chief Secretary to the Government Justin Saidi confirmed the development.
Saidi said the development fulfilled President Peter Mutharika’s commitment to streamlining Malawi’s foreign missions and maintaining an average of five officers per mission to eliminate unnecessary expenditure and improve operational efficiency.
