The newly revamped Builders and Carpenters Association of Malawi has said it is committed to ensuring that only skilled professionals operate in the sector.
Builders and Carpenters Association of Malawi Coordinator Ismail Matoni was speaking in Lilongwe on Sunday during a meeting to resuscitate the grouping.
According to Matoni, Malawi deserves quality infrastructure and furniture as it embarks on the journey to 2063.
He admitted that some of the structures that have been constructed in recent years have been appalling.
“We cannot continue like that. We need sanity in the building and carpentry sector,” Matoni said.

The grouping has been revived with support from Super Sakuwa Steel Limited.
Super Sakuwa Steel Limited Marketing Officer Dick Juma said his firm is committed to helping builders and carpenters grow their skills.
Lilongwe Technical College Principal Suzika Mvalo, who was guest of honour during the meeting hailed the bricklayers and carpenters for revamping the association.
Mvalo said through working in an association, the industry can be well regulated.

“Their role is very crucial because when we talk of development, we are talking of infrastructure. The roads, the buildings and many others,” he said.
The Builders and Carpenters Association of Malawi died a natural death around 2017 due to lack of financial support.
