Hannover Culture Bureau official Bianca Thomas from Germany networked with creatives at Jacaranda Cultural Centre (JCC) in Blantyre.
Some of the notable artists that Thomas engaged with included ethno-musician Waliko Makhala, who is the host of Sounds of Malawi, Agorosso, Keturah, Fumbani Phiri and Solomonic Peacocks Director McArthur Matukuta, who used the platform to share information on the Easter Theatre Festival.
On the day, Keturah, popularly known as Local Girl, also entertained the audience.
JCC Director Luc Deschamps, who is also French Honorary Consul to Malawi, said the platform was vital in reinforcing the relationship between the cities of Hannover and Blantyre.
“I discussed with Bianca Thomas the idea of bringing a Sounds of Malawi troupe to perform in Hannover. She is interested. Actually I had already talked to her and her team in Hannover in 2019 but then Covid happened,” Deschamps said.

He said they have been working hand in hand with Silvia Hesse from Hannover to help finance the shipping of containers with donations to their vocational school.
“They have also been supporting the school exchange programme between IGS List School in Hannover and Jacaranda School for Orphans, facilitating the stay of volunteers from Hannover at Jacaranda,” Deschamps said.
Thomas, who has since left the country, said she was pleased to interact with some of the artists in the country to learn of their craft, describing creatives as key to development.
Meanwhile, JCC will tonight play host to a special ‘Nkhani Yathu (Musings from the Storm) during Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Session.
