Veteran musician Giddes Chalamanda, commonly known as Agidde, creator of songs such as ‘Liny’ and ‘Che Meli’, Wednesday said he was recuperating and that he was looking forward to getting back to the stage.
The 93-year old musician was recently admitted to Chiradzulu District Hospital.
He said he still needs support as he has to go to the hospital for check-ups.
“I have exhausted all the money at the moment, I still need support for transport to go to the hospital for check-ups,” Agidde told Musicians Union of Mum (Mum) President Vita Chirwa and Secretary General Tonny Chitimatima at his home, Mazuwa Village in Chiradzulu, after they visited him.
The visit came barely a day after Chirwa and Chitimatima also cheered bassist Francis Chintembo, the original member of Kalimba Band, at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in Blantyre and legendary musician Sir Paul Banda at Chatha.

“Let me thank Mum officials for having time to visit me. I am happy,” he said.
He said as long as he was well, he will continue to perform even in his old age, saying this is the talent that God gave him.
“Music makes me happy and as long as I am alive I will continue to perform. At the moment, I miss the stage,” Agidde said.
He then took time out to do some freestyle of some of the songs with Chirwa and Chitimatima as well as his son Cliff, who played the acoustic guitar and played lead vocalist.

Chirwa said as Mum, they thought it wise to reach out to the three to support and encourage them.
“They are part of the family of musicians. Francis Chintembo got involved in an accident; Paul Banda goes for dialysis while Agidde was in hospital and just got discharged. The visit was just to wish them well,” the Mum leader said.
Meanwhile, Mum is today expected to donate some items and funds to musicians who were affected by Cyclone Freddy.
