The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) has attested to a significant surge in customs revenue and enhanced containment of technical smuggling due to the operational efficiency of its inland examination facilities.
MRA Deputy Commissioner Moses Masina said this during a media familiarization tour of the Blantyre examination center.
He said since inception the facility has brough in customs revenue averaging K60 billion annually on the back of its proficiency in detecting technical smuggling.
“Through enhanced surveillance and rigorous examination protocols, the center has successfully intercepted illicit activities, thereby safeguarding the nation’s economic interests. This is a critical checkpoint for containerized imports which undergo meticulous scrutiny.
“In transit containers are electronically sealed after initial inspections at the Mwanza border. The effectiveness of the Blantyre inland examination centre in combatting smuggling is evident from the surge in interceptions, resulting in notable increments in revenue collection,” Masina said.

“By fortifying the nation’s revenue collection mechanisms and thwarting illicit practices, the center exemplifies a proactive approach towards fiscal integrity and economic prosperity.
“Our inland examination centers stand as inspirations of efficiency and integrity, embodying Malawi’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and fiscal resilience,” Masina said.
