Former Leader of Opposition in Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa Sunday launched his People’s Development Party (PDP) at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe.
Addressing a mammoth crowd during the launch, Nankhumwa said the party is not just here to add up the numbers but to provide solutions to challenges Malawians are facing.
Nankhumwa, a former Democratic Progressive Party vice president for the Southern Region, said he would contest for the presidency in next year’s presidential election.
The Mulanje Central lawmaker said the party would prioritise integrated rural development to ensure that rural areas are food secure.
“The party will revamp operations of the Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation, which is on its knees at the moment,” Nankhumwa said.

He then announced that his party would go for an elective convention in September this year, when all positions will be up for grabs.
PDP secretary general Simeon Phiri said the new party is for unity, food security and development.
PDP organising secretary Bessie Chirombo said the new party is a force to reckon with.
