By Daniel Zimba:
State President and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) presidential candidate Lazarus Chakwera has assured Malawians that his administration is ensuring that they access affordable fertiliser.
He said this means his administration has already started fulfilling some of the campaign promises it has been making on the road to the September 16, 2025 Local Government, Parliamentary and Presidential Elections.
Chakwera made these remarks at Njamba Freedom Park in Blantyre Sunday during a political rally aimed at mobilising people to vote the MCP back into government for the next five years, up to the year 2030.
“The fertiliser has already arrived in Malawi and I will announce more details about it tomorrow [Monday] evening,” Chakwera said.

He also acknowledged that the country was facing the challenge of rising cost of living.
He was quick to accuse individuals he did not name of deliberately escalating the situation to tarnish his administration’s reputation while advancing their own political agendas.
Chakwera said his administration was aware of the individuals behind the situation and is currently confronting them, vowing to continue these efforts until normalcy is restored for the benefit of all Malawians.
“While others continue making empty promises just to convince you to vote for them, we are already doing what we say, and that is the reason why you should vote for me this month,” Chakwera said.

The MCP leader then outlined the qualities of a good leader, saying a good leader should have realistic plans to eradicate hunger and address economic challenges and unemployment, qualities he claims to possess.
Chakwera called upon Malawians to remain peaceful and united as they approach polling day on September 16, 2025.
“I also have the mouth and energy to respond to what I hear people say about me but I decided to remain silent because we have no reason to fight each other. Now, more than ever, we must come together to build a Malawi we can all be proud of,” he said.
At the rally, Information and Digitalisation Minister Moses Kunkuyu and Water and Sanitation Minister Abida Mia, both senior members of the MCP, described Chakwera’s leadership as one that promotes peace, unity and fair distribution of development projects.
In an interview following the rally, MCP secretary general Richard Chimwendo Banda, who is also Local Government Minister, called on people not to doubt Chakwera’s development pledges.
“If you listen to our President, he acknowledges the problems that people are facing but he is also providing plans and solutions to address them,” Chimwendo Banda said.
