President Lazarus Chakwera, who left Accra, Ghana, for Malawi during the afternoon of Tuesday, has described Afreximbank 30th annual meeting as beneficial to Malawi.
The President was seen off at Kokota International Airport by Ghana’s Minister of Information Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Ghanaian High Commissioner to Malawi Khadija Iddrisu and Malawi’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nancy Tembo.
Chakwera described his trip to Ghana as successful.
One of the highlights of the President’s trip was the signing of multi-billion dollar trade and investment deals with Afreximbank for construction of two mega farms and Arise Integrated Industrial Platforms’ deal, which will culminate in the construction of two industrial parks.
The President also had a meeting with the President and Chairperson for the Board of Directors of Afreximbank Benedict Oramah and his team, where they discussed ways of restructuring the country’s debt with the bank.
“We have been assured that the talks will continue. This is important as, through them, Malawi will have an Extended Credit Facility with the International Monetary Fund,” Chakwera said.
During the annual meeting on Monday, Chakwera joined a high-level panel discussion where he called on governments to make a deliberate move to include youths and women in the business space.— Mana
