Police Friday arrested former lawmaker, Bon Kalindo, reportedly over his failure to honour bail conditions.
In 2021, police arrested him for claiming to have knowledge of people behind the killings of persons with albinism but could not mention their names when asked to do so.

Police Public Relations Officer Peter Kalaya said Kalindo’s arrest Friday follows a warrant which the Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate (SRM) Court issued.
“The court charged and released him on bail with conditions for uttering information likely to cause fear and alarm to the public on Rainbow Television on December 20, 2021,” Kalaya said
One of the conditions for his court bail was that he should report to National Police Headquarters every fortnight.

Kalindo last honoured this bail condition on April 26, 2023, according to police.
He will appear in court on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Police arrested him Friday as he came out of the Resident Magistrate Court for an inter party hearing related to his earlier arrest for allegedly illegally connecting electricity to his house in Area 25, Lilongwe.
Police whisked him away in a land cruiser.

Police officers who were in civilian clothes were heard telling the lawyer representing Kalindo that he should follow them to Area 30 police.
“We have a warrant of arrest for Kalindo; he has several cases of not honouring his bail conditions,” a police officer said.
His lawyer, Stanley Chirwa, told Malawi News that he was yet to find out why he had been arrested and was rushing to Area 30 police to follow up with the police on why he had been arrested.
‘We were coming out of court where we were challenging the legality of his previous arrest warrant. Area 30 CID officers arrested them. I went to Area 30, and he’s not there. We are currently unaware of his whereabouts, and we fear for his safety,” Chirwa said.
A fortnight ago he was also arrested for allegedly disobeying bail conditions in the case of illegally connecting electricity to his house.
The arrest came when he went to the Lilongwe District Commissioner’s office to deliver a court ruling that allowed him and his colleague, Redson Munlo, to hold anti-government demonstrations.
The protests that went ahead were aimed at presenting a petition to President Lazarus Chakwera asking him to resign over the country’s economic situation.
