President Lazarus Chakwera has asked Malawians to change their mindset for the country to realise Malawi 2063 (MW2063) vision goals.
MW2063 is a long-term development agenda which aims to transform Malawi into a wealthy and self-reliant, industrialised and upper middle-income country by the year 2063.
Chakwera said it is unfortunate that some Malawians choose to be spectators while few are investing their energy in developing the country.
He was speaking at Mchengautuba CCAP under Livingstonia Synod, where he attended a service together with First Lady Monica, government officials and Malawi Congress Party officials.
Chakwera’s speech was drawn from a sermon by Livingstonia Synod Moderator Reverend Reuben Msowoya, who encouraged Malawians to work in unity to develop their families, churches and the country.
The Malawi leader said if every Malawian can have passion to contribute to the country’s development, issues of poverty, hunger and greed could become history.
“We must work together to develop the nation and this should be done by each one of us. People who follow the Bible should be our example; that in unity there is power,” Chakwera said.
In an interview, Livingstonia Synod Deputy General Secretary Isiah Mhone said they had asked the President to ensure that distribution of relief items to people affected by natural disaster is impartial.
Mhone claimed that people who were affected by floods and dry spells in Karonga District were not adequately assisted.
“We have told our President that relief items for natural disaster survivors should not be distributed according to where the governing party has more supporters. We are all Malawians and we all need support,” he said.
Several ministers in Livingstonia Synod attended the service, which was also a rededication day for the youth ministry in the synod.
