The international ‘legends’ friendly match between Malawi and Zambia grossed K16.8 million at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe on Saturday.
Football Legends Association (FLA) Treasurer Anthony Msendema confirmed the development Sunday, saying the amount does not include money fetched through electronic platform Mpamba.
“I think the amount is fair if we consider all the factors. However, we are yet to consolidate with TNM for gate fees realised through the Mpamba payment mode,” he said.
However, he said they were encouraged with the turn-up and stakeholders who supported the event.
“This is the way to go. We need more of those matches because they bring legends of different generations together while reminding fans of their past and giving the young generation a glimpse of their style,” he said.
FLA organised the game with support from Football Association of Malawi (Fam), who liaised with Football Association of Zambia.
The national legends’ body was formed to help improve the plight of former players by introducing medical and funeral cover, among other initiatives.

Meanwhile, Fam President Fleetwood Haiya has said he was delighted to be part of the match.
“I had an amazing time playing alongside Malawi’s football legends against compatriots from Zambia’s football legends.
“This is a great way to strengthen the bond between our two nations through the beautiful game. Such games provide a platform for networking and sharing ideas on how to improve our football,” Haiya posted on his Facebook page.
The game ended in a goal-less draw but it lived up to its expectations as both teams displayed good football that reminded the fans of the good old days.
For the better part of the match, the fans were kept on the edge of their seats.
Malawi had the likes of Ernest Mtawali, Joseph Kamwendo, Peter Mponda, James Sangala, Robert Ng’ambi, Chiukepo Msowoya while Zambia featured Jackson Kapumbu, Buchiza Mfune, Clive Hachilensa, Clifford Mulenga, William Njobvu, Hachilensa, Ignatius Lwipa and Chintu Kapamba.
