By Serah Chilora Marrakesh, Morocco:
Malawi has said it hopes to benefit from shared experiences with officials from 77 African countries gathered for the Second African Conference on Health Risk Reduction in Marakesh, Morocco.
Delegates seek to find ways of mitigating the effects of climate change, promoting food security and improving healthcare service delivery systems.
The three-day conference, which has attracted experts and world leaders, will also shed more light on the current state of healthcare and food security systems in Africa.

Agriculture Minister Sam Kawale, who is one of the officials at the conference, said the country is looking forward to gaining insights into how to deal with challenges that have emerged due to climate change.

“Malawi stands to benefit from the shared experiences of others on how to mitigate the impact of climate change in the agriculture sector. We will also look at how best to adapt to climate change, especially now that we are victims of climate change.
“We need to adapt quickly and put in place mechanisms that will help us mitigate the negative impact of climate change,” he said.
Kawale said they would take advantage of discussions to find ways of addressing challenges that are specific to Malawi.
“This forum aims to discuss food security issues in the context of Malawi, looking at how we can reduce harmful practices that are destroying the country. We will also have a chance to learn how other countries are dealing with issues that lead to climate change and environment degradation, leading to food insecurity,” he said.
