After coming out top in the Malawi Has Talent Season II by Goshen City, poet Isaac Kadankowa finally received a cheque of K35 million at The Times Group offices in Blantyre City Monday.
Kadankowa, who outclassed nine other finalists with a poem titled ‘Titukule Malawi’, hailed The Times Group and Goshen City, led by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri, for fulfilling its promise.
He said the prize money would be used well to bring about change to his life as well his poetry career.
He said he wanted to change the status quo, where poetry has, for a long time, played second fiddle to other art disciplines.
“There was never a day in my life when I ever thought I would win K35 million. But God has got His own way of doing things. This, for me, is the beginning of more things to come,” he said.

The poet also said he would use part of the prize money to publish a book of Malawian stories.
He said he had started writing the book.
“I will also hold a freeof-charge Zikomo Malawi show to show gratitude to people for supporting me and, at the same time, show people out there the beauty of poetry,” Kadankowa said.
The Blantyre-based poet is also set to perform during the launch of the Goshen City hospitality phase next month alongside two other top three finalists.

Kadankowa said poetry, just like other art disciplines, was vital and that his success challenges players not to overlook them but utilise them in their spaces.
“We, as poets, can be ambassadors for companies and organisations, just like musicians,” the youthful poet said.
TimesCom Business Manager and Events Manager for Malawi Has Talent by Goshen City Wanthaza Mughogho said music had dominated but poetry’s triumph showed that there was untapped talent in the country.
“We wish him well as he tries to manage his finances.
We will work with him and continue promoting some of his events,” Mughogho said.
He said, having run two seasons, they were now looking forward to season three.
“We will come out once we are ready but the biggest challenge is to get sponsors,” Mughogho said.
Dancers Destination Talents were the season I winners, with Kadankowa claiming the season II prize money.
