The country will, through the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, host the inaugural Investors Conference for the Creative and Heritage Industries next year.
The event will be held in Lilongwe from February 24 to 25 under the theme ‘Accelerating Financing and Investment in The Creative and Heritage Industries for Sustainable Job and Wealth Creation’.
Organised in collaboration with Copyright Society of Malawi (Cosoma), Afrexim Bank and other partners, the conference is aimed at promoting financing and investment opportunities for the sector.
The conference will also offer international institutions as well as banks and financiers with a platform to share experiences and develop customised solutions.

At the conference, entrepreneurs will also pitch bankable projects and network with prospective investors, with guest speakers on financing and investment for the creative industries set to share solutions.
In a foreword published in a magazine, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Patricia Wiskes says arts culture are not only means of entertainment but also a powerful medium for social cohesion and economic growth.
“Our musicians, filmmakers, writers, visual artists and dancers tell the stories that shape who we are as a people and as a nation,” Wiskes said.
She observed that many creative practitioners often work as individuals or loose groupings, a development she said had weakened structures and reduced interest from financiers.
