The second edition of the memorial show for renowned rapper Martse, real name Martin Nkhata, will be held on May 25 at Civo Stadium in Lilongwe.
The first memorial show took place last year at Cape Maclear in Mangochi.
Martse Foundation, which has since called for support, said the memorial show is aimed at remembering and honouring the artist for his contribution to the music industry as well as raising funds for a desk initiative, which the artist hatched before his passing on in 2022.
The foundation’s chairperson Thandiwe Nkhata-Okoye, said previously the foundation has donated desks at Cape Maclear Primary School in Mangochi and Chambu Primary School in Lilongwe.

“We are hoping to do the same to another school using funds realised from this memorial show,” she said.
Nkhata-Okoye, who is Martse’s sister, said people can support the foundation by donating or sponsoring the event.
“We can all make a difference together. Statistics of students sitting on the floor in schools are alarming. As a country, we can do better for the future of the new generation,” she said.
Nkhata-Okoye described Martse’s music as timeless and educational in nature, saying his songs “have a lot of advice whether about God, politics, way of living, as well as what he was going through in life”.

“Through his music, Martse was informing us what he was going through. It is just that we were not just paying much attention. He was a great artist,” he said.
One of the artists set to perform at the memorial show, Provoice, said people should patronise the memorial show and celebrate the life of Martse.
“I love surprising my audience, so I would rather not say what I will do on this day. Martse was a great artist and I do not have words to describe him but the word, ‘legend’ fits him perfectly,” the ‘Tunduma’ creator said.
Martse collaborated with several artists and some of his songs include ‘Go Deeper’, ‘Adidas’ and ‘Mwano’.
