Actors who star in Mdyangu and Mfumukazi drama series, which air on Times Television, are seriously expanding their horizon to stage drama.
Having made undertakings in recent times, the cast is set to premiere a play titled Mulamu at Gymkhana Club in Zomba on December 2 2023 before dating Jacaranda Cultural Centre in Blantyre the following day.
Actor, filmmaker and playwright Flora Suya, who is one of the wits behind Mdyangu and Mfumukazi drama series which delve into day to day life stories, said yesterday that, through stage drama acts, they want to share and create memories with people and breathe life into stage drama.
“We want to share and create memories with people who love stage theatre,” Suya, who has starred in many films including Shemu Joyah’s Seasons of A Life and Last Fishing Boat, said.
She said they were trying to seal gaps that were there in theatre, with many drama groups grounded.

“People should expect more shows from us,” she said.
Suya said she got inspired to come up with Mulamu because of her love for stage drama.
“Television is fun, but the stage comes with certain adrenaline, and it is so real because you act in front of people. It is intimate, so to speak,” she said.
In the play, an elder sister brings her younger sister from the village to raise her. They get along well but trouble brews up when their mother comes between them and poisons the younger daughter’s mind.
