Nkhata-Bay based reggae musician Michael Mountain left Thursday for United Kingdom (UK) where he is expected to hold close to 20 gigs.
The artist, real name Michael Phiri, who stunned people with his performance at the 12th edition of the Sand Music Festival held at Kambiri Beach Resort in Salima, is expected back end next month.
Mountain’s manager Emmanuel Maliro, the mastermind behind Mizu Entertainment, which has also been guiding the artist’s growing music career, said he was happy that Mountain has got an opportunity to perform in UK.
“He has shown that he is no ordinary musician and, with his unique voice, he will surely make a big impact in United Kingdom,” Maliro said.
He said that this plan was put together with the help of UK-based promoter Mattius, the creative force behind Spare Dog Records.

“We are working together to showcase the amazing music talent from Malawi at the global stage,” Maliro said.
He said that the first time he heard Mountain’s music, he was amazed.
“It was a special kind of music that grabs your attention right away. Who is Michael Mountain? At that very moment, I promised myself to introduce Malawi to this incredibly talented artist,” Maliro said.
He said he was now walking with pride that they have managed to make an international tour for Mountain.

“Today, I stand with pride, knowing that the curtains are about to go up on this huge tour, and this is only the beginning of many more to come,” Maliro said.
Teaming up with Gasper Nali, Mountain is committed to showcasing diverse and vibrant music of Malawi.
The two musicians have since promised a mix of sounds that will capture the hearts of the audiences wherever they will perform.
Mountain has also promised more gigs in the country upon his return from UK.
Inspired by reggae maestro Bob Marley, Mountain’s sound is inborn and he never went to any music school and to him, music is food for the soul.
“I would have gone for other genres but I found reggae interesting and, so, I am able to sing about what happens around me, I use music to talk about love and I also craft revolutionary songs,” the artist, who describes himself as a non-vegetarian Rastafarian, said recently.
